April 2001 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Bob Hobson home on 2 April 2001. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Joel Halverson who acted as chairman, with the following members in attendance:

Jean Bodensteiner Odin Christian Loren Heckathorne
Bob Hobson Dean Howell Charles Lloyd
Paul Malsom LaNair Niblock Jim Perkins
Jerry Radke Duane Stansbury Angelo Stefani
John Wheelock Don Williams

The minutes of the 5 March 2001 board meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's balance was $6,049.72. The secretary had no bills to present.

Lion Bob reported that the District Convention hosted by the Nevada Lions Club was a huge success and thanked all of the Nevada Lions for their help.

Lion President Joel passed around results of the Pancake Day questionnaire that Lion Jean had collated. General consensus was that Pancake Day needs to be moved back to Gates Hall and at a better time.

The Chicken BBQ was also discussed. We need to look at options since Gates Hall is not expected to be ready before 1 September 2001. Several sites were suggested including the Fair Grounds, School, Memorial Lutheran Church, etc. Maybe we could serve some other food instead of chicken. A committee consisting of Lions Angelo, Charlie, Duane, John, and Don will investigate the various options and report back to the board.

We will need a new caterer after 9 May 2001. The Brass Rail cannot not do it after that. Some possibilities inside and outside of Nevada were mentioned. Perhaps we could hold fewer meal meetings. Alternate meeting places may be needed since Gates is raising the rates for the South Room to $20 per hour compared to the $12 per hour we paid in the past. We will stay with the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays as our regular meeting nights. Lion Jerry will indicate this on the PU-101 form due 15 April 2001.

Lion President Joel reported that PDG Darrell Johnson will visit our club on behalf of the Iowa Lions Foundation on 25 April 2001. We may get the Glaucomobile in Nevada next spring.

Several Lions have signed up for parking lot duty when the ISU students move out of their dorms 2 to 5 May 2001. We are scheduled for 61.5 hours which would earn $522.75. Lion Jean reported that a few students leave some of their possessions in the parking lot. We could pick them up for resale or other disposal.

Lion Jim invited everyone to his outdoor birthday party on 14 July 2001. Lion Charlie moved to forgo our last meeting in July and first meeting in August. Seconded by Lion Angelo and passed. Jean Carman and family may be able to attend our second meeting in June to receive the Coleman Award given to deceased Lion Everett Carman. Lion Jim moved to hold Family Night on 11 July 2001 at Hickory Grove Park and rent a shelter. Seconded by Lion Angelo and passed. Lion President Joel passed around a brochure for Lions Mints.

Lion Charlie Lloyd will host the 7 May board meeting. Lion Charlie moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Duane, and we adjourned at 8:19 pm.

Secretary Jerry K. Radke
