Lion President Angelo thanked Lion Jim and Sylvia Perkins for hosting the board meeting. Lion Secretary Jerry read the minutes of the 4 March 2002 board meeting. Lion Duane moved to accept the minutes, seconded by Lion Jean, and passed. Lion Duane and the board applauded the vice presidents for organizing the successful Pancake Day. The treasurer's checkbook balance was $7285.58. The following bills were presented: 1) Paul Malsom for Pancake Day advertising expenses = $5.65, 2) LaNair Niblock for Pancake Day supplies = $6.36, 3) Smitty's Foods for Pancake Day groceries = $197.73, 4) Fareway for Pancake Day supplies ($7.12 and $11.16) = $18.28, 5) Burke Corporation for Pancake Day sausage = $69, and 6) City of Nevada for Gates Hall rent (meetings $144 and Pancake Day $464) = $608. Lion Jack moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Lynn, and passed.

For old business, Lion Jim reported that the Annual Pancake Day was a success. Lion Jerry has deposited $1669 and has another $144 to be deposited. We should net approximately $850. There were some negative comments about certain brands of pancake mix and vegetarian sausage. We should stay with one brand of each in the future if possible.

Lion Loren reported that the Nominating Committee has filled the officer's slate for next year. Lion Dean reported that the benches in memory of Lion Everett Carman should be in next week. Lion International had a problem with the two plaques we ordered. In short, we got three but were charged for only two, thus we have an extra.

Lion Jim reported that we can have a Coming to Your Senses screening for Kornerstone Kids pre-school any time in late April. Lions Jim, Jan Whaley, Jerry, Loren, Susan, and Jean have been trained. One person will have to help with a screening before we do ours. Lion Jim will set it up. Lion Jim didn't have the information for the Reading Foundation. The request was tabled until a future meeting. It was noted that Lion Margaret Maliet donated $100 during Pancake Days. The secretary will send her a "Thank You" note.

A packet of instructions for the Glaucomobile from Denny Lovick was reviewed. Our club will be responsible for motel and meals for the driver plus meals for an optometrist. It was suggested that we park the bus uptown. Lion Jean volunteered to head the project. The Scholarship Committee will meet and select the winners for our scholarships after 19 April. Joe Melcher of the Nevada Kiwanis Club asked for assistance with the community trash cleanup day. The board was in favor of helping with this project. Mayor Patrick Sheets wants a Lion representative to the sesquicentennial committee. Lion Jerry volunteered. The Chamber of Commerce sent a letter asking if we were interested in having a food stand at the 11 May 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Lion Susan moved to pass on the opportunity, seconded by Lion Jim and approved.

Lion President Angelo read a resignation letter from Lion Joel Halverson stating that he was working is West Des Moines and unable to attend meetings. Lion Jack moved to accept his resignation with regrets, seconded by Lion Dean and approved. The Chicken BBQ planning needs to begin. Lion Dick Settle wants to know what to do with our old fish scale. Lion Dean moved to take it to the Wilson Auction in Colo, seconded by Lion Duane and passed. It was noted that the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award patch has been attached to our club banner.

Our next regular meeting is 10 April when the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award will be presented to Lion Bob Hobson. The District 9x7 Convention is 12-13 April in Humboldt. Our next board meeting will be 6 May at Lion Angelo's home. Lion Jack will host the June meeting. Lion Jack moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Jim, and we adjourned at 8:20 pm.
