April 2003 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the LaNair Niblock home on 7 April 2003. The meeting was called to order at 7:08 pm by President Jim Perkins who acted as chairman with the following members in attendance:

Secretary Jerry Radke read the minutes from the 3 March 2003 board meeting. Lion Jean moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Lion Paul, and carried. The treasurer's check book balance was $4971.08. The following bills were presented: 1) Central Iowa Printing for Pancake Day tickets = $15.53, 2) LaNair Niblock for Pancake Day signs = $9.48, 3) Jean Bodensteiner for Pancake Day signs = $2.00, 4) Jerry Radke for Club Supplies = $23.28, 5) Paul Malsom for Pancake Day ticket stock = $2.08, 6) Paul Malsom for Pancake Day supplies from Sam's Club = $107.93, 7) Fareway Stores for Pancake Day supplies = $63.94, 8) Smitty's Foods for Pancake Day supplies = $7.45, 9) Gates Memorial Hall for rent ($256 for Pancake Day) = $352.00, 10) Paul Malsom for Pancake Day advertising in The Nevada Journal = $76.80, and 11) Lions Clubs International for new member Dwight Bonham = $35.04. Lion Dick moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Jean, and approved.

It was noted for old business that the Lions costume has arrived. Lion Paul will model it at our next regular meeting. Lion Jean is still gathering information on possible campers at Camp Hertko Hollow. Lion Dean reported that he had been approached by a resident of Colo requesting help with glasses. Lion Dean referred the person to the Colo Lions Club.

Lion President Jim reported that Burke's has agreed to donate all of the sausage we used for Pancake Day. We will send a "Thank You" to Burke's. Lion Paul reported that we served 390 at Pancake Day and grossed $1647. Expenses presently are $591.42 for a net of $1105.58. Lion Secretary Jerry reported that he has received a few more dollars for leftovers and tickets which will increase profits slightly. Many good comments were received on the pancakes and sausage. Thanks to Lions Paul and Jean for their hard work. The change to Sunday worked well.

For new business, Lion Jean reported that we still need workers for the ISU Dining Hall fund raisers. Lion Jerry noted that we need to replenish the funds in our Administrative Fund. Lion Dean moved to send $15 to the District Governor and nominate Secretary Jerry for a 100% Secretary Award. Seconded by Lion Jean and passed. Lion Dean moved to donate $300 to the Red Cross to be used to send donated goods to our troops in Iraq. After discussion the motion was seconded by Lion Dick. Lion Dean will call the Red Cross to make sure the money will be used for this purpose. The motion carried.

Lion Jerry reported that we will need all of the Lions to help with the sesquicentennial celebration in June. We will be working with the sesquicentennial Health Committee. There was some discussion about keeping our Annual Chicken BBQ. Lion Dean moved that we hold a Chicken BBQ for the Sesquicentennial this August, seconded by Lion Loren, and carried. Lion Dean reported that our scholarship investment with Edward Jones is now worth $25,251.04.

Lion Jean volunteered to host the May board meeting in the Chamber of Commerce board room. Lion Dick moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Jean, and we adjourned at 8:37 pm.
