December 2002 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the John Wheelock home on 2 December 2002. The meeting was called to order at 7:14 p.m. by President Jim Perkins who acted as chairman, with the following members in attendance:

Jean Bodensteiner Loren Heckathorne Dean Howell
Paul Malsom Duane Stansbury John Wheelock

Lion President Jim read the minutes from the 4 November 2002 board meeting. Lion Jean moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Lion Loren, and carried.

The treasurer's check book balance was $5406.63. The following bills were presented: 1) Paul Malsom for Sight Night paper and copies = $10.50 and 2) Jerry Radke for Spouse Night decorations and gifts = $149.86. Lion Jean moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Dean, and the motion carried.

A Conference Fund for going to meetings and conventions was discussed. How much would it take for fund the account? How much should be added to the account yearly? Should guidelines be established? The indication was to fund it on a per meeting basis decided by the board and not to have a separate fund. No vote was taken due to the lack of a quorum. Lion Jean made a request for funding to attend the Midwinter Convention and the International Convention in Colorado. Deadline guidelines will be needed as well as more discussion.

It was noted that we are averaging 23 attendees per meeting while paying for a guaranteed 25 minimum. No discussion other than agreement on the need to increase membership.

A "Coming to Your Senses" screening will be held at the Nevada Resource Center in Nevada on 5 December 2002. Lion Susan Radke is organizing the event. Workers will be needed from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

Christmas Baskets will be given to four needy families chosen by the Nevada School nurse. Two of the baskets will be provided through Smitty's and two through Fareway. Dean will write two checks for $100: one to Smitty's and one to Fareway. It is urgent to get the checks to the school nurse.

Pancake Day was discussed. Lion Dean will check with Gates to see if Saturday or Sunday of the second or third weekends of March 2003 are available. Dean has asked Gates to hold Sunday, March 23, for us until the club decides on when to hold Pancake Day.

The meeting was adjourned by Lion President Jim at 8:10 pm.

Substitute Secretary Paul J. Malsom
