The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the LaNair Niblock home on 7 January 2001. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Angelo Stefani who acted as chairman, with the following members in attendance:
Jean Bodensteiner Odin Christian Lynn Harris Loren Heckathorne Dean Howell Paul Malsom LaNair Niblock Jerry Radke Susan Radke Duane Stansbury John Wheelock
Lion President Angelo thanked Lion LaNair and Dorothy Niblock for hosting the meeting. Secretary Jerry Radke passed around copies of the minutes from the 3 December 2001 board meeting and summarized them. Lion Jean moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Lion Dean, and the minutes were approved. Treasurer Dean reported that the balance in our checking account is $6253.39. The secretary presented the following bills: (1) Gates Hall for seven meetings totaling $168 plus Sight Night rental at $64 = $232, (2) Lions Clubs International for new member Brad Gerndt = $31.12, and (3) Dean Howell for a card = $2.43. Lion Susan moved to approve the bills, seconded by Lion Jean, and passed.
Lions Jean, Jerry, and Loren indicated they plan to attend all or part of the Mid-Winter Leadership Conference this coming weekend, 11 - 13 January. Lion Dean is still waiting to hear from Lions Clubs International concerning plaques for the park benches to be placed in front of Gates Hall in memory of Everett Carman. It was reported that the Vandiero, Baker, Beich, and Zimbeck families received the four $50 Christmas baskets. "Thank Yous" from Rua Svensen (for the Dale Svensen memorial tree) and Marilyn Argotsinger (for her $25 Christmas gratuity) were circulated. Lion Jerry reported that Jennifer Perkins and Aaron Port have received checks for the second halves of their Lions scholarships. There is only $321.48 in the McDaniel saving account which will not cover the $375 paid out. Lion Jean moved to use $300 from the McDaniel savings account and supplement it with $75 from the Project Fund to cover the check for $375 made out to Aaron Port and Wartburg College. The motion was seconded by Lion Susan and passed. We will need to discuss the dollar amounts to be awarded for the two scholarships in the future at an upcoming board meeting.
Lion Secretary Jerry handed out copies of the six-month financial report and summarized it. The report was accepted. A club roster also was circulated. Copies of the report and roster will be distributed to every member of the Nevada Lions Club.
Lions Clubs International Foundation has decided to credit Melvin Jones applications with donations made to the World Trade Center and Pentagon Victims Fund. We donated $1000 and should be eligible to designate a Melvin Jones Award. Bob Hobson was suggested as a recipient. Questions arose concerning the criteria for determining Melvin Jones and Warren Coleman Awards. Lion Dean moved to apply for a Melvin Jones Award in Bob Hobson's name. Seconded by Lion Duane and passed. Lion Jerry will send in the application. Lions Jean, Susan, Paul, and Loren agreed to serve on a special committee to decide on criteria for future Coleman and Jones awards. They are to report back to the board in two months.
Lion Jerry passed around the potential membership list prepared by the Membership Committee and asked if anyone knew how many had been contacted. The committee needs to determine how many still need to be contacted. Our next meeting on 9 January is another guest night for potential members.
Lion Jean Bodensteiner will host our next board meeting on 4 February 2002. Lion Duane moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Dean (plus several others), and we adjourned at 8:02 pm.
Secretary Jerry K. Radke
