January 2014 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board of Directors meeting, January 22, 2014, in the Windsor Manor dining room. President Jerry Radke called the meeting to order at 7:09 pm and acted as Chairman, with the following members present:

Charlene is working on setting up a Zone meeting. Where and when are yet to be determined. This Zone meeting's agenda is to provide officer training, with emphasis on Secretary and Treasurer.

Then, there was talk of potential new members: Scott & Connie Huffman. Later Jim Wright was mentioned, who actually lives in Nevada, but is a member in Collins. It was also noted that Wes Ebert may drop, but we will keep him for now, as this will be decided later. It should be decided before the May cutoff.

Loren Heckathorne read the previous Board Minutes, as prepared by Jerry Radke. A motion was made by John Beals, second by Steve Jordening to approve the Minutes as read. Motion passed.

Loren Heckathorne presented the financial report. There was discussion about the Project Fund losing money, but there was no motion to reduce spending. A motion to approve the Treasurer's report was made by Bob Hunter, second was made by Willie Morfitt. Motion passed.

The following bills were presented: $28.31 for Paper Recycling sacks $18.40 for Postage and $104.24 for construction of the sign in the Recycling Trailer. Steve Jordening moved to pay the bills, second made by Charlene Jarboe. Motion passed.

We had a discussion of when to hold the Pancakes Feed and later when to hold Pancake Day. A motion to have the Pancakes Feed on Sunday, Feb 16 was made by John Beals, second by Bob Hunter. Passed. Charlene Jarboe is in charge of this event.

A motion to have Pancakes Day on Sunday, Apr 27 was made by Bob Hunter, second by Charlene Jarboe. Passed. The Vice Presidents are in charge of this event. Charlene will check with Gates Hall for scheduling both events.

President Jerry discussed the Pizza-thon - to let school children know where food comes from. This was started by the Ames Breakfast Lions Club and supported by the Soil and Water District. Jerry is still looking into this and there was no motion about this subject.

The Nominations Committee is composed of John Beals, Bob Hunter and Charlene Jarboe. They need to ask Lions to step up to service positions and present the new slate of officers by the middle of April so the secretary can file the PU-101 with LCI in May.

A motion was made by Bob Hunter and second by Charlene Jarboe to move the Valentines meeting to the Dyer-Dowell Victorian House and pay the caterer about $10 per meal. Motion passed.

A motion was made by Steve Jordening and seconded by Bob Hunter to restrict our grill rental. We won't rent our grill out 75 days before or after any Nevada Lions Pancake event. Motion passed.

Special thanks to Jim Fenn for his work on constructing the Paper Recycling trailer display.

A motion was made by Steve Jordening and seconded by Bob Hunter to approve Loren Heckathorne as the new Secretary and John Beals as the new Treasurer. Motion passed.
