Secretary Jerry Radke read the minutes from the 2 June 2003 board meeting. Lion Dwight moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Lion Dean, and carried. The treasurer's check book balance was $2803.92. The following bills were presented: 1) Lions Clubs of Iowa for President Plaque = $55.80, 2) Gates Memorial Hall for 5 meetings rent = $120, and 3) John Wheelock for parade float expenses = $15.53. Lion Susan moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Duane, and passed.

Lion Jean reported that everything is ready for Family Night scheduled for 9 July 2003 at Hickory Grove Park. Most of the widows are coming and a total of 60 people are expected. Plans for the chicken BBQ also are under way. A letter has been set to the City Council to reverse the one-way drive past Gates Hall during the Chicken BBQ. Notices will go to the area radio stations and be put in the church August bulletins. Work sign-up sheets will be out at our 23 July 2003 meeting. We had two floats in the 4th of July parade. Lion John pulled the trailer float with Lion Susan riding in our new Lions costume. Our softball team was not able to ride so Lion John rounded up some children to throw out candy. Bill Horine drove his float and advertised our Chicken BBQ.

The Lions Directory will be handed out at our 23 July 2003 meeting. Jim Fenn has the program for that meeting. Additional decorations for the Lincoln Highway Days float were discussed. Lion Steve moved to authorize Lion Susan to buy decorations at her discretion, seconded by Lion Jean and passed. Lion Jean has the checks for the three ISU dining events. She is rounding up workers for the Jel Conference on 16 and 17 July 2003.

The Lions Youth Camp is 12 to 19 July 2003 this year. Lion Dean will chair a dinner to be served to them. We will serve sweet corn and bologna if the sweet corn is ready. Lion Jean will check with Jan Whaley for a date. Lion President Paul read a letter from Tim Hansen of Nevada Parks and Recreation thanking the Lions for their $1200 donation.

Increasing dues and meals was discussed since these funds are falling behind. Lion Jerry recommended increasing dues from $50 to $60 per year and meals from $6.50 to $7 per meal. Lion Steve moved to increase the dues from $50 to $60 per annum, seconded by Lion Dwight, and passed. Lion Duane moved to leave meal charges at $6.50 per meal, seconded by Lion Charles, and passed. The American Legion Flag Fund has not reached its goal. Lion Duane moved to donate $300, seconded by Lion Jean, and passed.

Lion President Paul read "Thank You" letters from the Iowa Lions Foundation and scholarship winner Jake Miller. It was decided not to donate the $100 requested by the United Way. Excused absences and makeups were discussed. Lion Steve moved that a member can make up a missed meeting by attending a board meeting, visiting the State Lions Office, or attending a Lions Club activity 60 days prior to or 60 days after the missed meeting. Members will not be charged an absence for disability, hospitalization, or employment requirements but will be responsible for providing the club secretary with a written makeup. The motion was seconded by Lion Dwight and passed.

The 4 August 2003 board meeting will be in the Paul Malsom home. Lion Charles will host the 8 September 2003 meeting and Lion Dwight will host the 6 October 2003 meeting. Lion Charles moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Dean, and we adjourned at 8:20 pm.
