The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Dean Howell home on 2 June 2003. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by President Jim Perkins who acted as chairman with the following members in attendance:

Secretary Jerry Radke read the minutes from the 5 May 2003 board meeting. Lion Jean moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Lion Loren, and carried. The treasurer's check book balance was $3764.05. The following bills were presented: 1) Loren Heckathorne for State Convention expenses = $18, and 2) Jean Bodensteiner for State Convention expenses = $30, 3) Jean Bodensteiner for Stuffed Lion gifts for scholarship winners = $10.60, and 4) Susan Radke for publicity photos = $6.47. Lion Steve moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Dick, and passed. The previous bills from Smitty's and Central Printing have been paid.
It was reported that several Lions worked 44 hours at ISU dining for the Special Olympics and another 120 hours for the Odyssey of the Mind Convention earning approximately $300 and $900, respectively. The Methodist Convention will be 12 to 15 June 2003 and we may be able to work breakfasts, dinners, or both. Lion Jean is checking on this. Since our Administrative Funds are running low, Lion Charles moved to use the money raised at ISU Dining for administrative purposes, seconded by Lion Susan and passed.
Lion Jerry reported that the Sesquicentennial Committee would like the Lions to help with the ice cream social and children's games on 21 and 22 June 2003. Lion Duane moved to support these events, seconded by Lion Susan and carried. Jerry will coordinate with personnel at Nevada Parks and Recreation. It was noted that we have $1200 in our Project Fund that is earmarked for Parks and Recreation. Lion Steve moved to write a check to Parks and Recreation for $1200 to be used for playground equipment. The motion was seconded by Lion Jean and passed.
Lion President-Elect Paul indicated that he would like to order some items to give to program presenters and to have on hand to give as gifts. Mugs and banners were discussed. Lion Steve moved to budget $300 for favors, seconded by Lion Charles, and passed.
The chickens for our annual Chicken BBQ have been ordered and the rooms at Gates have been reserved. Lion Steve moved to raise the prices to $4 for one-half chicken and $6 for a chicken dinner, seconded by almost everybody, and passed. It was reported that Jake Miller and Joe Paulsen won the $1000 McDaniel and Maliet Scholarships, respectively. Lion Dwight announced that he has three possible programs available this fall if someone needs them. Lion President-Elect Paul indicated that he will have the new Lions Club directories printed by 1 July 2003. PDG Herman Kopitzke had triple-bypass surgery. The club will send him a card.
Lion John will ready the Lions Club float for the 4th of July parade. Lion Susan will ask our girls softball team to ride on the float. Lion Dean will purchase the candy for the parade.
Our next board meeting will be 7 July 2003 at the Duane Stansbury home at 7 pm. Lion Duane moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Charlie, and we adjourned at 8:10 pm.

June 2003 Special Board of Directors Meeting
The Nevada Lions Club held a special Board of Director meeting following the regular meeting on 25 June 2003 in Gates Hall. The meeting was called to order at 8:03 pm by President Jim Perkins who acted as chairman with the following members in attendance:

Lion President Jim Perkins reported that the Iowa Lions Foundation has not reached its budget goal. To reach the goal would require an additional donation of $5.50 for every Lion in District 9x7. It was noted that any additional gift would be credited towards a Warren Coleman award. After discussing the matter, Lion Susan Radke moved to donate an additional $350 to the Iowa Lions Foundation. The motion was seconded by Lion Jean Bodensteiner and passed. Lion Dean moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Lion Jean, and we adjourned at 8:10 pm.
