June 2004 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Charles Lloyd home on 7 June 2004. The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by President Paul Malsom who acted as chairman. The following members were in attendance:

Jean Bodensteiner Dwight Bonham Loren Heckathorne
Steve Jordening Charles Lloyd Jerry Radke
Susan Radke Dick Smith

Secretary Jerry read the minutes of the 3 May 2004 board meeting. Lion Dwight moved to accept the minutes, seconded by Lion Jean, and passed. Secretary Jerry reported a checking account balance of $12,311.22 and also reported that he had no bills to present.

Lion Jean reported that we raised $239.25 working at ISU Dining for the Special Olympics on 21 and 22 May 2004. Since our Administrative Fund is in the red, Lion Jean moved that all money earned at ISU Dining this summer be placed in the Administrative Fund. The motion was seconded by Lion Dwight and passed. Lion Jean reported that we will not be working for the Methodist Conference for this year but we can still sign up to work at the Boy Scout Order of the Arrow Conference 31 July through 5 August 2004 and the 4-H Conference 30 June and 1 July 2004. Breakfasts and dinners are open for the Boy Scouts and breakfasts for the 4-Hers.

Lion President Paul reported that he presented the Dr. Leonard Maliet Lions $1000 Scholarship to Lindsey Bingham and the Ray McDaniel Lions Memorial $1000 Scholarship to September Sherwood at the Nevada High School Graduation on 23 May 2004.

Camp Hertko Hollow near Boone, IA is holding an open house for Lions on 1 July 2004 from 10 am to 2 pm. We are sponsoring Brittany Sheeler's attendance at this camp.

An open sided building for band concerts at the old Nevada swimming pool location was discussed for new business. We have two estimates of $11,750 and $13,500. The first is a wooden structure and the second is metal. Both would have concrete floors. Lion Steve moved to pursue getting bids even if it costs more than the $10,000 we have from the Margaret Maliet estate. The motion was seconded by Lion Dick. The board felt it should be easy to raise the extra money. The motion passed and a committee of Lions Paul, Dean Howell, Jean, and Charles was named to head the project.

Lion Dick noted that Wilma Thompson, wife of Charter Lion Argyll Thompson, has died and wondered how the club honors member's wives. Lion Susan moved that we honor Wilma the same way we honored Ruth Countryman. Lion Secretary Jerry will check the records to determine what we did. The motion was seconded by Lion Jean and passed.

Susan and Jerry Radke will host the next board meeting on 7 July 2004 at the Nevada Public Library. Family Night will be 11 August 2004 at the Oriole Ridge Lodge in Hickory Grove Park. Lion President Paul will ask Margaret Crane about a lower minimum for club meals. It was decided that we will get a float ready for the 4th of July parade. Lion Charles moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Jean, and we adjourned at 8:10 pm.
