The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the John Wheelock home on 5 November 2001. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by President Angelo Stefani who acted as chairman, with the following members in attendance:

Lion President Angelo thanked the Wheelock's for hosting the meeting. The minutes of the 1 October 2001 board meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's balance was $6,378.38. Lion President Angelo introduced Mark Cahill of Edward Jones Investments. Mark presented some investment possibilities that would earn more than the 2.50 to 3.26 percent interest banks are now offering for Certificates of Deposit. GMAC has mid-term bonds yielding 7 percent for two years or 7.375 percent for three years. Other possibilities were mentioned. Lion Steve moved to authorize the Finance Committee to investigate financial investment opportunities for our scholarship CDs and decide which investment to recommend for board approval. Seconded by Lion Susan and passed. Mark was thanked for his presentation and Lion Dean was applauded for his work on the scholarship investments. Lion Dean also reported that the Finance Committee had met and recommends that no changes be made at present to our dues or meal charges. Lion Duane moved to accept the recommendation, seconded by Lion Jean, and passed.
The secretary presented the following bills: (1) Fareway Stores, Inc. for groceries used for Sight Night = $87.44 (2) Lions Clubs International for three subscriptions to the Lion magazine for the Nevada Junior High School, the Nevada Senior High School, and the Nevada Library = $18.00, (3) Karolee Wilson for Mid-Winter raffle baskets = $5.00, and (4) Jean Bodensteiner for Sight Night supplies = $26.99. Lion Loren moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Susan and passed.
Lions Lynn, Odin, Duane, Jim Perkins, Dick Smith, Dean, and Angelo worked at the ISU/Kansas State football game on 3 November 2001. Lion Jean reported that approximately 35 pairs of glasses were collected at Sight Night held 30 October 2001 in Gates Hall. It was a successful event with 65 children and their parents attending. Fifteen door prizes were won by children from several different towns.
New business: It was decided not to order Lions calendars this year. There will be a Coming to Your Senses training in Story City on 17 November 2001. Lions Susan, Jean, and Loren expressed interest in attending. Lion Secretary Jerry will contact Coming to Your Senses Chair Bob Meller for more details. Lion President Angelo noted three items of correspondence. Zone Chair Al Cox will be visiting our club on 12 December 2001. We received a Thank You from LCIF for our $1000 donation to the LCIF World Trade Center and Pentagon Victims Fund. Lion Denny Lovick and the Glaucomobile will be coming to Nevada 27 June 2002.
Lion Dean reported that he has ordered two concrete benches for Gates Hall at $290 each plus $70 freight. Huffaker wants $150 for a bonze plaque. Dean will check for alternatives. Lion Dean also suggested that we consider joining the Nevada Chamber of Commerce at $100 per year. Lion Loren moved that we join, seconded by Lion Jean, and passed.
Lion Harry Gandrup is in Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Lion Jerry has sent him a card from the club. He will have a card at our next meeting for all members to sign for Lion Harry. District Governor Tim Wilson will make his official visit to our club on 14 November 2001. Spouses and Special Guest Night will be 28 November 2001 with the Tail Twisters in charge. Our next board meeting will be at Jerry and Susan Radke's home on 3 December 2001. Lion Dean moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Lynn, and we adjourned at 8:38 pm.
