The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Community Room of the Nevada Public Library on 4 November 2002. The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by President Jim Perkins who acted as chairman, with the following members in attendance:
Jean Bodensteiner Brad Gerndt Loren Heckathorne Paul Malsom Jerry Radke Susan Radke Dick Smith Duane Stansbury John Wheelock
Lion Jerry read the minutes for the 7 October board meeting. Lion Brad moved to have his name stricken from the minutes. The motion was not seconded and Brad became abusive and vulgar during the discussion that followed. Lion Jim Perkins asked him to refrain from swearing. Lion Brad responded with a stream of obscenities and tendered his resignation. Lion Dick moved to accept the minutes as written, seconded by Lion Jean, and passed. Lion Duane moved to accept Brad's resignation. Brad stormed out of the room prior to a second by Jean. A lengthy discussion followed. The motion passed eight to one. Lion Duane suggested that we leave the door open to Brad's possible reinstatement in the future.
The treasurer's check book balance was $6135.47. Lion Secretary Jerry presented the following bills: 1) Lions International for three LION magazine subscriptions = $18, 2) Jean Bodensteiner for Sight Night supplies = $81.20, 3) Susan Radke for Sight Night supplies = $14.21, 4) Paul Malsom for Sight Night copies = $12.50, 5) The Nevada Journal for Sight Night advertising = $34.20, and Fareway for Sight Night supplies = $52.73. Lion Dick moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Susan, and passed. A discussion followed concerning how to budget for events and specifically for Spouse Night. Lion Susan moved that we spend approximately $200 for Spouse Night, seconded by Jean, and passed.
For old business, the Coming to Your Senses screening has been set for December 5th from 8:30 am to 3 pm at the Community Center by the old Donnelley's location. Lion Jerry reported that we donated $300 to the Nevada Sesquicentennial at our last regular meeting but members will be asked to purchase $15 shares. Lion Jean again asked for reimbursement for her registration at the International Lions Convention in Japan. Lion Secretary Jerry reported that he has found precedence for this in our club records. Lion Jerry moved that we reimburse Lion Jean for the $90 registration, seconded by Lion Susan, and passed.
Several items of new business were introduced. The Membership Committee needs to meet soon. The $200 for Christmas baskets was taken from the meal not eaten at Christmas in previous years. It was suggested that we take it from the Project Fund in the future. No action was taken. Lion Jean suggested changing Pancake Day from a Friday to a Saturday or Sunday to make it easier for those with day-time jobs. No action was taken.
Lion Loren moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Dick, and we adjourned at 8:22 pm. Lion John Wheelock offered to host the 2 December 2002 board meeting at his home.
Secretary Jerry K. Radke
