September 2002 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Paul Malsom home on 9 September 2002. The meeting was called to order at 7:23 p.m. by Lion 1st Vice President Paul after a quorum was reached, with the following members in attendance:

Lion Jean read the minutes of the 5 August 2002 board meeting. The minutes were amended to read Lion President not Lion President Elect when referring to Lion President Jim Perkins. Lion Brad moved to approve the minutes as amended. The motion was seconded and approved.

Lion President Jim arrived and conducted the rest of the meeting. Treasurer Dean reported the checking account balance was $8140.69. The following bills were presented: 1) Lions Clubs International for awards = $80.63; 2) Jerry Radke for brochures printed by Copyworks for the Chicken BBQ = $7.63; 3) McDonald's for BBQ butter, orange drink, and drink carriers = $97.23, 4) Fareway Stores for BBQ groceries and supplies = $475.39; 5) John Wheelock for pickup parts damaged in LHD parade = $15.00; and 6) Smitty's Foods for BBQ groceries & supplies = $240.92; 7) Paul Malsom for BBQ expenses = $64.55. Lion Steve moved to pay the bills as submitted; the motion was seconded and passed. Lion Jean asked again if the club would pay her registration fee for the International Convention in Japan. The request was tabled again until Lion Jerry can report what he has learned about whether the District will pay any of her expenses.

Lion Dean reported that there had been a letter indicating district dues. Action will await clarification from Lion Jerry.

Lion Duane moved that the second meetings in November and December be cancelled because of nearness to the holidays in those months. The motion was seconded and passed.

Lion Steve moved that members not be billed for the meals for September 11th and November 27th, since those meetings are to be cancelled. The motion was seconded and passed.

Lion Dick moved that the club not buy calendars this year. The motion was seconded and passed.

There was discussion about contributing to the Legion Flag Endowment Fund. Lion Steve made the motion to contribute $300 to the Legion Flag Endowment Fund at this time. The motion was seconded and passed. We may want to contribute more in the future.

It was announced that Lions District Governor Cliff Weldon will be coming to our 9 October meeting.

Because it takes three weeks for processing Coming to Your Senses applications and because October is already booked quite heavily, we will not be doing Coming to Your Senses screening in September or October.

Lion Loren reported that several candidates for 3rd Vice President had been suggested but nothing was finalized yet.

Margaret Maliet's $10,000 bequest to the Club is to go toward one or more community projects. Members are to think about community project possibilities.

Lion Brad presented a Prepaid Legal Services fundraiser possibility. After discussion about our Lions mission and restrictions regarding involvement in any member's business, Lion Duane moved to decline the Prepaid Legal Services fundraiser. The motion was seconded and passed with one opposing vote.

Lion President Jim and Lion Jerry are to work on the 2002-2003 Nevada Lions program and schedule booklet.

Lion President Jim is to contact Lions Lynn, Harold, and Nib to be our Audit Committee to perform audit on 2001-2002 club records.

Our next board meeting will be 7 October 2002 at Lion Jim Perkin's home. Lion Dean moved to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded and passed; the meeting adjourned.
