September 2016 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

Windsor Manor, Wednesday Evening, September 14 -- Loren Heckathorne

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board of Directors meeting, Sep 14, 2016, in the Windsor Manor dining room. President Jim Fenn called the meeting to order at 7:45 pm and acted as Chairman, with the following members present:

John Beals Jim Fenn Loren Heckathorne
Bob Hunter Charlene Jarboe Paul Malsom
Willy Morfitt Jerry Radke Susan Radke
Mike Seaboch

Secretary Heckathorne read the minutes from the Aug 10 Board meeting. President Fenn asked that the minutes be amended to include e-mail approval of 8 signs having 24 by 36 dimensions. And also, that a local business donated $500 to this cause. The Minutes were approved as amended.

John Beals presented the Treasurer's Report. Motion by Jerry Radke to approve the report, Second by Mike Seaboch, Motion passed.

There were no Bills of Account presented.

President Fenn brought up the Pancake Day replacement as old business. Ronda Maier presented the idea that we could do our Pancake Day in conjunction with Festival of Trees, Breakfast with Santa on December 10. There would be no charge for the South room and the Kitchen. (They never charged the Chamber when they did the Breakfast with Santa.) It is noted that this is a Saturday morning event as our past Pancake Day events have been Sunday morning. We need to be done a half hour before the Junior Theater event, which starts at 11:30.

We should do a Free Will offering, again and have normal advertising. Willy Morfitt and Charlene Jarboe made a motion to proceed with Pancake Day as part of Festival of Trees. Motion passed. There was speculation on how many would attend and there were various estimates. The prevailing philosophy was to prepare for many, rather than run out of pancakes. We might need both grills. It was noted that the valve leaks on the 2nd tank.

We will continue planning next meeting and come up with a game plan. The planning needs to be completed by mid October or perhaps by the end of October. At this time it was mentioned that our advertising displays need attention and it was suggested that we need a new board display.

There was a report on the LHD parade. Everything went well.

Club Charter: Steve Jordening needs the Charter. I will ask International for it.

John Beals talked about Kids Sight screenings for this year, to be held Oct 3, 4, and 5. The 3rd will be a morning session at Lil' Cubs, the 4th will be a morning session at Head Start and the 5th will be all day at the Elementary school.

Lions Willy Morfitt moved and Susan Radke Seconded to donate $25 for a gift basket for the Mid Winter Convention. Motion passed. Dress like a mountain person - whatever that means.

Mike has an injured hand and needs help completing his Paper Recycling routes. He does pickup on Tuesdays and Fridays. Jim will help him do his paper pickup routes.

There should be only 3 administrators for Facebook.

Lion Tamer LaNair Niblock died this last month and there were many Lions and their spouses at his funeral. We didn't elect a new Lion Tamer tonight.

John Beals made a motion to adjourn and we adjourned at 9:01.

We held a brief business meeting at our regular Lions meeting on September 28. Mainly we discussed having Pancake Day with Parks & Rec's Breakfast with Santa on December 10. Later, there was also some discussion of the Downtown Trick or Treat event.

Iowa Lions Foundation chairman Al Ricks thanked our Lions Club for contributing to the ILF. He noted that the ILF provides 7 services to assist the disabled: three for hearing difficulties and four for sight difficulties.
