LIONS 2000 Membership
The Nevada Lions Club membership committee met on 5 January 2000 to plan
strategies for our upcoming membership drive. They have decided to have a
special membership night on 23 February at Gates Hall with prospective
members as guests. Letters will be sent to Nevada businesses and selected
individuals. Please let the membership committee know the names of persons
you think would make good Lions members. It is up to each member to help
bring in new men and women to carry on our work. Let the membership
committee know who you will be bringing as a guest by 18 February. The
committee proposes giving two months of free meals to any Lion who brings in
a new member during the "Membership 2000" campaign.
Lion Don Williams said, "I'm proud of our community, our churches, fine
schools, and businesses. I believe we should give something back to the
community -- that's why I'm a Lion." We need to let the citizens of Nevada
know that they too can support our community by becoming a Lions Club member.
The membership committee consists of Jim Fenn, 382-6481; LaNair Niblock, 382-
6183; Jack Argotsinger, 382-4638; Brett Anderson, 382-4091; and Larry Myers,
382-4271. Please give them your support and suggestions for new members.
A new Nevada Lions Club brochure will be needed to send out with the
mailings. Last year's brochure will be updated unless someone is willing
to help design a new one. Check with Lion Jerry Radke.
Brass Rail Takes A Break
The Nevada Lions Club will need to find a new caterer for our meals from 26
January through 22 March 2000. Patty Rewerts of the Brass Rail needs surgery
and expects to be laid up until April. Patty suggested that we contact Mom's
Meals, Ltd. or Smitty's in Nevada. Judy's Catering and Hy-Vee in Ames are
two other possibilities to serve meals at our meetings during the next two
and one-half months.
Our best wishes to Patty and thanks for all of the good meals she has
provided during the last few years. We hope she will be able to serve us
again in the future.
Nevada LIONS Donate Trailer
The Nevada Lions Club transferred the camping trailer used for our Fish Sale
fund raisers to the Nevada Boy Scouts on 28 December 1999. We have not used
the trailer since our last Fish Sale two years ago. It has been stored at
the Denny Tichenor farm and used only to store our roasters and some other
equipment and supplies. Lion Dean Howell and Dick Settle have removed our
belongings from the trailer and stored them at Dick Settle's along with the
pancake grills and other equipment.
Lion Jim Perkins expedited the transfer of the trailer by providing $1 for
the required minimum sale price. The Boy Scouts intend to use the trailer to
haul supplies on their camping expeditions.
No Entries for Peace Poster Contest
Lion Jim Perkins reported at the 3 January 2000 board meeting that no Peace
Posters were turned in for the Peace Poster contest. This is a
disappointment since both the Nevada Schools and the Nevada Community
Resource Center had agreed to participate in the contest. The contest was
open to students in the 11-13 age range. Posters needed to be judged and
forwarded to District Governor Herman Kopitzke by 10 January 2000.
The board thought we should try to get the Peace Poster into the school's
curriculum for next year since we have had no entries in the past two years.
Our club should also consider providing an additional incentive such as a $25
cash award to the winning poster.
Clubmate Software Available
Our Lions Club purchased Clubmate last summer to help manage club records.
There are modules for secretary and treasurer. Lion Jerry Radke has
completed most of the entry work and the software and data are available for
any Nevada Lion to use. A PC running Windows is required or a Mac that can
emulate Windows. See Lion Jerry Radke if you would like to install Clubmate
on your computer.
Memorial:
We remember Lion George Calvert, a dedicated Lion for 25 years.
Lion of the Year
Lion Everett Carman for his dedicated service through thick and through
thin.
Thank Yous!
