The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Charlie Lloyd home on 3 April 2000. The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by President Loren Heckathorne who acted as chairman, with the following board members in attendance:

The minutes of the 6 March 2000 meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's balance was $5,015.15 with $1,969.64 in the Administrative Fund and $3,045.51 in the Project Fund. The treasurer's report was approved.
President Loren Heckathorne read an application for membership from Paul J. Malsom, an insurance agent with the Paul Malsom Agency in Nevada. Jack Argotsinger is his sponsor. Motion, second, and approved.
The secretary presented the following bills: (1)Harold Walter - Tang for Pancake Day = $29.55 and (2)Smitty's Super Valu - groceries for Pancake Day = $326.21. Lion Susan moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Angelo. Motion approved.
Lion Secretary Jerry gave a report on our Pancake Day fund raiser. He relayed thanks from Chair Joel Halverson to everyone who worked on the event. We served 352 adults and 39 children for a total of 391 in addition to those eating at Long Term Care. We pre-sold approximately 100 tickets and 87 were used. Gross income was $1893 and expenses came to $837.26 for a net profit of $1055.74. 27 Lions worked 252 hours.
The Nominating Committee announced that the slate of officers is now complete after the addition of Lion Odin Christian for Tail Twister. Lion Jan will not be attending the International Convention in Hawaii. Lions Bob Hobson, Loren Heckathorne, LaNair Niblock, and Jerry Radke will attend the District Convention in Ogden on 14-15 April. Lions Loren Heckathorne, Jerry Radke, and Susan Radke expressed interest in attending the State Convention in Clear Lake, Iowa. Lion Susan moved that the club pay the expenses of the delegates. Lion Charlie provided the second and the motion carried.
The Dr. Leonard Maliet and the Ray McDaniel Lions scholarships were discussed. Lion Duane moved that we set the amount of each scholarship at $750 supplementing them from the Project Fund if necessary. Lion Charlie seconded and the motion was approved. Lion Dick will attend a meeting at the High School at 4 pm on Thursday, 6 April, regarding scholarships.
Lion Jerry moved that we again pay $170 to Parks and Recreation to sponsor a youth baseball team. Lion Susan provided the second and the motion was approved. It was requested that we be the sole sponsor of a team this year.
We have an opportunity to raise some funds by serving as parking lot attendants when the ISU students move out of the dorms on 3-6 May. Lion Dick will call for more information and bring it before the entire club at our next meeting on 12 April. Lions John and Charlie volunteered to head up the project if we proceed.
Lion President Loren brought up several items for discussion. John Lofton, a 5th grader in Nevada has degenerative glaucoma and needs an evaluation in Iowa City costing $300 to $350. Tabled for more information. We received Thank You notes from Pastor Herzberg for helping with their Pancake Supper. We decided against the Walk for Cystic Fibrosis and the purchase of framed Constitutions for the schools or library. We need to support Lion Jan Whaley during her term as District Governor. Several items were passed around including a request by Leader Dog, changes to the District 9X7 Constitution, and a newletter from the Sarasota Lions Club which Lion Dean visited while on vacation. A question was raised about a possible Guest Night on 26 April.
Lion Susan moved that we give $500 from our Pancake Day profits to the Habitat for Humanity home being built in Nevada. Lion Duane seconded and the motion was approved.
There will be an Officers Training and Zone Meeting at the State Bank & Trust meeting room on 30 May 2000 starting at 7 pm. Our next board meeting will be 1 May at Angelo Stefani's home. We adjourned at 8:35 pm.

April 2000 Special Board of Directors Meeting
The Nevada Lions Club held a Special Board Meeting in Gates Hall on 12 April 2000. The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. by President Loren Heckathorne who acted as chairman, with the following board members in attendance:

Lion President Loren reported that there is a 5th grade boy in Nevada with glaucoma who needs an immediate medical evaluation which will cost between $300 and $350. Lion Secretary Jerry gave some details from Amy Frank with the Heartland Area Educational Agency in Ames, the Nevada High School Nurse, and the medical doctors in Iowa City. The doctors may discount the bill if the Nevada Lions Club pays it. Lion Jerry also checked with the Lions State Office and the 9x7 District Governor regarding the possibility of funds from the district or State Lions Foundation. Lion Charlie moved to pay up to $350 to cover the cost of the boy's evaluation. Lion Fenn seconded the motion and a short discussion followed. The motion was approved. Lion Jerry will check on getting a discount and possible funds from the district or the State Foundation.
Lion Dean moved to adjourn. Lion Lynn seconded the motion and we adjourned at 6:23 pm.
