December 1999 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Dick Smith home on 6 December 1999. The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by President Loren Heckathorne who acted as chairman, with the following board members in attendance:

Everett Carman Odin Christian Lynn Harris
Bob Hobson Dean Howell Steve Jordening
Jerry Radke Dick Smith Duane Stansbury
John Wheelock

The minutes of the 1 November 1999 meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's balance was $3,611.44 with $2926.01 in the Project Fund and $685.43 in the Club Fund. The treasurer's report was approved.

The secretary presented the following bill: Miller's Flowers - 10 Fresh Flower arrangements for Special Guest Night = $127.20. Lion Dick moved to pay the bill, seconded by Lion Everett. Motion approved.

No reports on the Per Mar ISU Football fund raising, the Peace Poster contest, the Lions trailer gift to the Boy Scouts, nor membership due to the absence of the various committee chairmen. Lion Jerry did report that we have received $1155 from Per Mar for the first five games with approximately $200 expected for the last game. This was a good fund raiser gaining over $1350 with no expenses.

Lion President Loren asked about better publicity for our club. Our Public Relations committee is down to one member, Lion Bill Horine, since the transfer of Lion Tom Rittgers to the Ames Evening Lions Club. No one offered to help with the task.

A "Coming to Your Senses" fund raiser is needed. No ideas were presented. We will discuss this again when Lions Jan and Susan are present.

Lion Everett moved that we donate four $50 Christmas food baskets to local needy residents (determined by the school nurses) and to donate $50 to LCIF. The motion passed following a second by Lion Bob. We will also donate $200 to the Iowa Lions Foundation using the meal money from the meeting we forgo right before Christmas. Lion Bob moved that we give a $25 check to Marilyn Argotsinger for playing the piano at our meetings. Lion Duane provided the second and the motion passed. Lion Dick moved to give $25 as a memorial to George Calvert. Lion Bob provided the second and the motion carried. Lion Everett moved that we send a check of $50 for Iowa Lions Youth Exchange (Inbound) and another check of $10 for Iowa Lions Youth Exchange (Outbound). Odin seconded and the motion carried.

The Mid-Winter Convention is scheduled for January 7, 8, and 9, 2000 in Des Moines. Lions Loren and Everett plan on attending. The next Zone Meeting is December 13th, 1999 starting at 7 pm in the Story City library.

Our next board meeting will be Monday, 3 January 2000, at 7 pm in the John Wheelock home. Lion Odin moved that we adjourn, seconded by Lion Everett, and we adjourned at 8:27 pm.

Secretary Jerry K. Radke
