The minutes of the 8 January 2001 board meeting and the minutes of the 24 January 2001 special board meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's balance was $7,244.81 with $2,563.95 in the Administrative Fund and $4,680.86 in the Project Fund.
The secretary presented the following bills: (1) Lions Clubs International for 39 members semi-annual dues = $468, (2) Susan Radke for Mid-Winter registration and meals = $41, (3) Jerry Radke for Mid-Winter expenses = $41, and (4) Loren Heckathorne for Mid-Winter expenses = $41. Lion Dick moved to approve the bills, seconded by Lion Jean. Motion approved.
Lions Jerry and Jean reported on the Mid-Winter Conference. Nevada Lions attending were Jean Bodensteiner, Loren Heckathorne, Jerry Radke, and Susan Radke. The conference was especially valuable for new members and new club officers. Lion President Joel stressed the need for continued publicity in the Nevada community. He pointed out the article in the 24 January issue of Nevada Now.
Lion President Joel announced that PDG and Iowa Lions Foundation Trustee Darrell Johnson will be the speaker at our 14 February 2001 meeting. Some locally hosted Lions Youth Exchange students also will attend.
The District 9x7 Convention to be held 16 and 17 March 2001 at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada was discussed. All Nevada Lions will be needed to work at this convention. The Lions Youth Camp will be held 15 - 21 July 2001 at Bortell's Ranch near St. Charles, Iowa. There was a question as whether we should serve a meal as last year or just give a donation. We will check with District Governor Jan Whaley before deciding. The Lions Summer Camp for the Blind will be held at Camp Courageous near Monticello, Iowa. The camp is for 5 to 17 year-olds. We need to contact the Nevada School Nurse to see if there are any candidates from our area. It would cost our club $250 to sponsor a camper.
The Iowa Tractor Ride will be ending in Nevada this year. The Chamber of Commerce would like helpers to work at this event. We are interested but will need more information. Lion President Joel remarked that it has been several years since we have had the Glaucoma Mobile in Nevada. He will e-mail PDG Dennis Lovick to schedule a date.
Pancake Day plans were discussed. Lion President Joel reported that Coach Larry Parker would rather have our club donate to the new High School track rather than the display board. After some discussion, Lion Charles moved to stick with our original plan and hold the funds in a special account until they need the display. Seconded by Lion Duane and passed after some more discussion. There were several questions and comments regarding the school requiring us to pay a cook and a janitor for Pancake Day. Lions Jean, Joel, and Brett Anderson are to work out the details and logistics.
Lion Dick moved to donate $25 to the Dale Svensen memorial. Seconded by Lion Jean and passed. Lion President Joel read a Thank You from the Southeastern Guide Dogs for our donation.
Lion Odin Christian will host the 5 March board meeting. Lion Odin moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Angelo, and we adjourned at 8:04 pm.
Secretary Jerry K. Radke
