The minutes of the 6 December 1999 meeting were read. They were approved after a motion by Lion Steve and a second by Lion Duane. The treasurer reported a balance $2885.94 in our State Bank & Trust checking account after payment of second half scholarships to Carolyn Halverson and Amy Lekwa. The treasurer's report was approved.
The secretary presented the following bills: Lions Clubs International for 50 magnetic calendars = $60.50 and Ames Hearing Center for a hearing aid = $112.50. Lion John moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Duane. Motion approved.
Lion Jim Perkins reported that no posters for the Peace Poster Contest were submitted by Nevada students. He will see if the school can get the Peace Poster Contest into the school curriculum next year. Perhaps we need to offer a cash prize as an incentive.
Lion Jim Fenn reported that the Membership Committee will meet this coming Wednesday. They will plan for a membership drive in February. There was a discussion on possible approaches.
A discussion followed on the lack of money in the administrative fund for things like membership drive expenses, convention expenses, etc. Lion Jim Perkins moved that we use the money we earned at the ISU football games for such administrative expenses. Lion Charlie offered the second and the motion carried. Lion Jim Perkins moved to raise the Tail Twisters' normal fine from 10 cents to 25 cents starting in February. Lion Charlie provided the second and the motion was approved. Lion Susan then moved that the Membership Committee be allowed to spend up to $250 on membership recruitment. Lion Steve seconded and the motion passed.
Lion Jim Perkins reported that we transferred title to our camping trailer to the Nevada Boy Scouts on 28 December 1999. Lion Dean will remove our roasters and other stuff from the trailer to be stored elsewhere. Lion Jim Perkins will arrange for a picture and writeup for the Nevada Journal.
We will not do a "Coming to Your Senses" fund raising project this year. Someone from the Sight Committee needs to check on the collection boxes for eye glasses located at businesses in Nevada.
There were several items for new business. Lion President Loren mentioned DG Herman Kopitzke's article on the Nevada Lions Club in the Iowa Lion. A Nevada youngster needs flexible eye glass frames. Lion President Loren will check into this further. We will not participate in the American Diabetes or SCORE campaigns. Zone Chair Susan Radke reported on the 13 December Zone Meeting in Story City. Our club will host the next Zone Meeting in February or March. The third Monday in March was suggested as a tentative date. Lion President Loren will call the State Bank about using their meeting room for the event. Lion President Loren read a Thank You from Nesjie Calvert for the memorial we gave in honor of departed Lion George.
Lions Everett, Loren, and Dean are planning to attend the Mid-winter Convention in Des Moines this weekend. Lion Susan moved that we cover the cost of their meals. Lion Lynn provided the second and the motion carried.
Our next board meeting will be Monday, 7 February 2000, at 7 pm in the Bob Hobson home. Lion Steve moved that we adjourn, seconded by Lion Charlie, and we adjourned at 8:35 pm.
Secretary Jerry K. Radke
