Lion President Joel Halverson read a letter from Lion Susan Radke requesting a waiver of her meal charges for the months of January through May. She is working on her Masters Degree at Iowa State University and is required to take a Wednesday night class. Lion Dean moved to not charge Lion Susan for meals from January through May, seconded by Lion Loren, and passed. Lion President Joel then read a Thank You card from Marilyn Argotsinger for the $25 gift she received for being our pianist.
The move from Gates Hall to Christy Hall was discussed. It was reported that some Lions had difficulty hearing at the 13 December 2000 meeting. Lion Dean reported that he and Lion Jerry had been to Christy Hall and managed to get the sound system in our podium working. The District Governor will need the microphone when she makes her official visit on 10 January. Lion Joel reported that he will give The Brass Rail catering one of our calendars with the meeting dates marked so there isn't another mixup.
Lion Jim reported that we didn't receive any Peace Poster entries. Lion Niblock reported that the Membership Committee expects the Lions members to bring in guests as prospective members. Lion Jerry suggested that we selected a month, such as February, to bring prospective members. A few Lions suggested some possible candidates.
Club publicity was discussed. Lion Jean said she will prepare articles for the Nevada paper if Lion Jerry gets her copies of the minutes. Lions Jerry, Loren, and Susan Radke have registered for the Mid-Winter Conference and Lion Jean intends to attend. The dates are 12 to 14 January 2001.
Lion Jerry presented the financial report for 1 July through 31 December 2000. It was noted that we had $4680.86 in our Project Fund and $1479.70 in our Administrative Fund. The ISU fund raisers brought in good money with no expenses. Lion Jean will coordinate the ISU parking and ISU food service sign ups for the coming year. Lion Jerry reported that the second halves of the two scholarships have been sent to the scholarship winners.
Pancake Day had been set for 23 February 2001 but a location was not selected. Several places were suggested including the Nevada High School, Legion, Christy Hall, and the churches. Lion President Joel will get together with Pancake Chair Brett Anderson to consider the possibilities. Lion Jean suggested that we consider a different day and time. A Saturday might work better at the school. Lion Jean will check with the Nevada High School. The consensus was to have Lions Joel and Brett consider alternative dates and times.
Lion Joel read a letter from Steve Ward with CASA asking for a donation towards a VCR/TV system. It was decided to table this request until we develop a list of potential projects. Lion Jerry will get a list from Parks and Recreation.
Lion LaNair Niblock will host our February meeting. Lion Jean reported that the Lions Youth Exchange Students will be here for parts of January and February. It was decided to invite them to our 14 February meeting. Lion Charlie moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Duane, and we adjourned at 8:10 pm.
