Treasurer Dean Howell reported a checking account balance of $13,752.91. Secretary Jerry Radke presented the following bills: 1) Central Iowa Printing for Lions Pancake Day Tickets = $14.65, 2) Paul Malsom for Pancake Day supplies = $86.37, 3) Nevada Vision Clinic for Thomas Treadwell's glasses = $100, 4) Gates Memorial Hall rent ($256 for Pancake Day and $144 for meetings) = $400, 5) Smitty's Foods for Pancake Day supplies = $21.64, and 6) Fareway Stores for Pancake Day supplies = $59.58. Lion Dwight moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion LaNair, and passed.
Lion Jean reported that Pancake Day was fun and we had good reports on the food. Lion Jerry reported that as of now the net profit is $946.91 with some bills, ticket sales, and leftover sales still to come in. Lion Paul read a note from the American Legion Auxiliary asking us not to use the third Sunday in March for our Pancake Day. We will do what we can in the future to avoid that day.
Lion Charles reported that four students have signed up for the LEO Club so far. He suggested that we invite potential LEO members to a dinner and/or hold a joint project. Competition for student's time is intense. It may be summer before we can get a LEO Club formed.
Lion President Paul thanked Lion Susan Radke for writing and publishing the Spring Newsletter. Copies were given to the board members. Copies will be handed out at our regular meeting and mailed to Lions, widows, and former members. Lion Paul took copies for the Chamber of Commerce.
Lion Loren handed out a partial form listing potential officer candidates. Lion Dwight volunteered to run for secretary. Lions Loren, Jim, and Angelo Stefani will complete the slate by our next regular meeting.
New business: Lion Paul read a letter from Lion Gene Spencer requesting that he be moved from Active Status to Privileged Status. Lion Dean moved to honor his request with regrets and thanks for Lion Gene's many contributions to the club. The motion was seconded by Lion Jean and passed.
Lion Paul read a request for a donation to 3-on-3 basketball. Lion Charles moved to pass on the opportunity, seconded by Lion Loren, and passed. We received a request from Leader Dog. We have already donated.
There was a request to help Riley Moots with medical expenses. After some discussion, Lion Jean moved to donate $100, seconded by Lion Dwight, and passed.
The Dr. Leonard Maliet Memorial Lions Scholarship and the Ray McDaniel Lions Scholarship will each be $1000 this coming year. Lions Jim, Jack, and Charles will serve on the selection committee.
Lion Jean reported on ISU Dining fund raising possibilities. The first one is for Special Olympics 20-22 May 2004. We can earn $261 by working the breakfasts and/or $350 for working the dinners. Several Lions signed up for the breakfasts. More are needed if we are to do the dinners. Other conferences should be available for work during the summer.
Lion Charles volunteered to host the 3 May 2004 meeting at his home. Lion Dean moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Charles, and we adjourned at 8 pm.
Secretary Jerry K. Radke
