May 2002 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Angelo Stefani home on 6 May 2002. The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by President Angelo Stefani who acted as chairman, with the following members in attendance:

Lion President Angelo welcomed the board to his home. Lion Secretary Jerry read the minutes of the 1 April 2002 board meeting. Lion Susan moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Lion Loren, and passed. Lion Treasurer Dean reported the checking account balance was $5770.86.

The following bill was presented: Jean Bodensteiner expenses for the District 9x7 Convention = $18. Lion Susan moved to pay the bill, seconded by Lion Duane, and passed. Lion Dean moved to give $25 to the Margaret Maliet Memorial Fund, seconded by Lion Susan, and passed

For old business, a Coming to Your Senses screening was discussed. PDG Herman Kopitzke, at our last regular meeting, volunteered to supervise our screening. Action was tabled since Lion Jim Perkins was absent. The Reading Foundation request also was tabled for the same reason. Lion Jack reported that the Scholarship Committee had met and submitted a list of the top candidates for our two $750 scholarships to the High School. One of the vice presidents will present the scholarships since Lion President Angelo will be out of town. Joe Melcher of the Kiwanis requested help for the 18 May litter pick-up. Meet at the McFarland Clinic at 8 am. Lion Jean will organize the Glaucoma Clinic scheduled for 27 June 2002 on Main Street in Nevada.

Donations were discussed. Lion Duane moved to give $100 to Leader Dog, $200 to Diabetes Awareness, and $350 to the Iowa Lions Foundation. Lion Dean provided the second and the motion passed. Lion Dean reported that he took our fish scale to Colo for the auction but hasn't heard how much it sold for. The Chicken BBQ scheduled for 24 August in Gates Hall was discussed. Lion President Angelo has reserved Gates Hall but the chickens need to be ordered soon. Lion Dean moved to order only 300 chickens this year, seconded by Lion Loren, and passed. Mike Lewis has offered to make chicken turners for us. Lion Don Williams will be consulted on how to best do this.

Several items of correspondence were introduced. Lion President Angelo will check further on the Summer Camp for the Blind at Camp Courageous. It was decided not to enter a float in the Rose Festival at State Center. The North Central Human Services is holding Duck Splash 2002 during Lincoln Highway Days. Lion Jean moved to donate $100 for a "Noble Quacker" sponsorship, seconded by Lion Paul and passed. Lion Duane moved to donate $55 for a "Blue Package" advertisement during Lincoln Highway Days. Lion Dayton Countryman will be asked if he is interested in attending the Patriot Council Meeting.

Lion Angelo reported that we need to reserve Gates Hall for next year's Pancake Day. Lion Jack moved that we reserve 20 and 21 March 2003, seconded by Lion Dean, and passed. Lion Angelo will inform Gates Hall. Lion Jean reported on three events: 1) The Special Olympics on 17 May, 2) an ISU fund raiser on 4 June from 5 pm to midnight, and 3) an ISU dining hall fund raiser on 6-8 June from 6-9 am and/or 4-7:45 pm. She will have sign-up sheets at our next regular meeting.

Lion Secretary Jerry reported that two members were over 90 days late in paying their dues. Lion Loren will contact Lion Brad Gerndt and Lion Jerry will talk to Lion Harry Gandrup. Lion Jerry asked to have Lion Harry placed in the "privileged" membership category. Lion Jean moved to do this, seconded by Lion Dean, and passed.

Lion Angelo will be gone for graduation and for most of June. First Vice President Jim Perkins or one of the other vice presidents will need to present our scholarships at graduation and preside at the board and regular meetings during June.

Our next regular meeting is 12 June. Our next board meeting will be 3 June 2002 at Lion Jack's home. Lion Dean moved to adjourn, seconded by everybody, and we adjourned at 8:42 pm.
